There’s something magical about ending your day with a story that’s just a little unhinged. You know the kind—those dark romance books with messy characters, twisted dynamics, and plotlines you definitely don’t read in front of family.
The ones where you’re like, “Okay… morally questionable, but I’m invested.”
Every night, I slip into my cocoon:
- Kindle in hand
- Lights low
- Blanket wrapped like it’s shielding me from judgment and reality
That moment is my version of peace. The world fades. My responsibilities disappear. I’m not Daisy dealing with life—I’m Daisy, lost in some gorgeous chaos of a love story that makes me yell at the screen and then swoon five seconds later.
And sometimes… it gets spicy.
Like, don’t even tilt your Kindle near a doorway in case someone reads over your shoulder spicy.
My Kindle’s been through it.
Page 157? That one had me clutching my non-existent pearls and whispering “ma’am…” at fictional people.
🌶️ The Official Spice Scale™
| Spice Level | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 🫖 Mild Sizzle | “Slow Burn But Safe” | Some kisses, a little tension, nothing you’d hide from grandma |
| 🌶️ Warm Glow | “It’s Getting Hot in Here” | Heavy flirtation, suggestive banter, and a few closed doors |
| 🔥 Full Flame | “Send Help & a Fan” | Steamy scenes, questionable choices, and face-flushing moments |
| 🌋 Danger Zone | “Should This Be Legal?” | Chaos, emotional destruction, and spice that could boil pasta |
Personally? I tend to hover between 🔥 and 🌋 and I am not ashamed. Sometimes it’s the tension. Sometimes it’s the plot. Sometimes it’s just the morally gray disaster man with the emotional range of a teaspoon and a six-pack. Don’t judge me.
It’s an escape, a ritual, a romance-fueled rebellion. And yes, I’ll gladly admit I’ve stayed up way too late chasing cliffhangers, emotional damage, and scenes that could melt steel.
Because when it comes to self-care?
💅 Sometimes it’s skincare and herbal tea.
🖤 Other times it’s fictional drama, questionable choices, and spice levels that need warning labels.
