Listen…
I went into this book thinking, “Okay, prison nurse, dangerous inmate, abusive warden husband this is going to be messy in the best way.” And oh, it was messy. Like… morally gray, red-flag parade, “girl what are you doing” messy.

Toxic by Nicole Blanchard follows Tessa, a prison nurse stuck in a horrible marriage with the warden. She’s isolated, controlled, and basically surviving on autopilot. Then she meets Gracin an inmate who is absolutely the definition of dangerous but magnetic. He’s the kind of man you know you shouldn’t want, but your brain is like “but he cares about her sooooo…”
And that’s the whole vibe of the book:
He’s a bad guy.
He’s done bad things and will continue to do them.
But the way he protects her? The way he sees her? The way he’s like “touch her and die”?
Yeah. I get it.
It’s a cat-and-mouse, obsession-fueled, addictive kind of love story the kind where you’re flipping pages like “this is toxic but I’m invested.”
My Thoughts (aka me being dramatic as always)

Okay so…
I liked the concept.
I liked the tension.
I liked the “I will burn the world for you” energy.
But the book as a whole?
It just wasn’t fully for me.
The ending felt mid not terrible, not amazing, just kind of… there.
And I wanted more depth, more payoff, more emotional punch after all that build-up.
BUT LET ME BE SO FOR REAL:
The spice?
The spice was SPICING.
Like… this book said “dark romance” and meant it.
If you’re here for heat, intensity, and that obsessive energy, you’re going to eat.
Overall, I’m giving it:
⭐⭐⭐
3 stars
Not a new favorite, but definitely a ride.

Final Thoughts
If you love morally gray antiheroes, forbidden tension, and that “he’s terrible but he loves her” dynamic, you’ll probably have fun with this one. It’s dark, it’s messy, it’s spicy, and it leans hard into obsession.
Just… don’t expect a perfect ending or a life-changing plot.
Expect chaos.
Expect heat.
Expect a man who would absolutely commit crimes for his girl.
And honestly? Sometimes that’s enough.
Okay byeee, love you, go drink water and do something gentle for yourself today 💗
